Classification and Ideology--A Critical Discourse Analysis of Bush’s Two Speeches on 911 Attack

Abstract

The beginning of the 21st century witnessed a terrible event— 911 attack in 2001. Right after the attack, the thenPresident George Bush delivered a speech. On the fifth anniversary, President Bush addressed the whole nation again.One salient linguistic feature in two speeches is classification. A critical discourse analysis of Bush’s two speechesreveals Bush’s deep-rooted ideology that America is the most powerful and dominant country in the world.
