World Journal of English Language (ISSN 1925-0703, E-ISSN 1925-0711) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Sciedu Press. It aims to provide an international forum for high-quality, original research that advances understanding of the English language in its diverse forms—as a linguistic system, a medium of literary and cultural expression, a vehicle for translation, and a subject of teaching and learning. We welcome submissions from scholars worldwide—regardless of nationality or linguistic background—on the English language in all its global dimensions.
WJEL is published bimonthly (January, March, May, July, September, and November) in both online and print formats. Manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission portal or emailed to wjel@sciedupress.com.
WJEL publishes high-quality research with a clear focus on the English language in the following areas:
- English Linguistics: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and historical linguistics.
- English Literature: literary theory, critical methodologies, and interpretive studies of classic and contemporary English-language works, engaging with theoretical, cultural, historical, or global dimensions. Submissions that make significant contributions to literary or cultural understanding are fully eligible, even without explicit linguistic analysis.
- Translation Studies: translation theory, practice, and interpreting involving English, especially in multilingual contexts, with emphasis on contrastive analysis, textual and discursive features in translation, and linguistically oriented approaches to translation.
- Applied Linguistics and Language Education: the study of English language teaching and learning, grounded in second language acquisition (SLA), including ELT, TEFL, TESOL, English-medium instruction (EMI), curriculum development, teacher education, language assessment, bilingualism/multilingualism, EAP/ESP (including academic and professional writing), discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis (CDA), cross-cultural communication, and language policy.
All manuscripts undergo rigorous double-anonymous peer review. WJEL is committed to publishing research that is innovative, inclusive, and contributes meaningfully to global scholarship on the English language.

a) Submission Acknowledgement
Upon submitting a manuscript online, you will receive an automatic acknowledgement letter from the system. For email submissions, an editor or editorial assistant will send a confirmation to the author within 1-3 working days. If you do not receive this confirmation, check your spam or junk mail folder or contact the editorial assistant at wjel@sciedupress.com.
b) Basic Review
An editor or editorial assistant determines whether the manuscript aligns with the journal’s scope. A plagiarism check is then conducted using CrossCheck by iThenticate. Manuscripts outside the journal’s scope or found to contain plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) will be rejected. Authors will be notified of rejection reasons.
c) Peer Review
We use a double-blind peer review system, ensuring anonymity for both reviewers and authors. The manuscript will be reviewed by at least two experts: one editorial staff member and one to three external reviewers. The review process typically takes 6-12 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.
While we appreciate authors' interest in the progress of their submission, we kindly ask that status inquiries be limited to cases where more than three months have passed without any update. This helps us focus resources on processing manuscripts efficiently.
d) Decision Made
The decision to accept or reject an article is based on reviewer recommendations. If reviewers’ opinions differ, the editor-in-chief will evaluate all comments to make a balanced decision or initiate a second round of peer review.
e) Review Outcome Notification
The review outcome will be sent to the corresponding author and shared with co-authors.
f) Article Processing Charge Payment
If the submission is accepted, authors revise paper and pay the Article Processing Charge.
g) Publication Notice
Authors and readers will be notified and invited to access newly published articles on our website.

What is e-Version FirstTM
e-Version First is a feature offered through our journal platform. It allows PDF version of manuscripts that have been peer reviewed and accepted, to be hosted online prior to their inclusion in a final printed journal. Readers can freely access or cite the article. We aim to publish accepted manuscripts in e-Version First in two weeks' time after the final draft is completed.
