World Journal of English Language

WJELWorld Journal of English Language (ISSN 1925-0703, E-ISSN 1925-0711) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Sciedu Press. It aims to provide an international forum for high-quality, original research that advances understanding of the English language in its diverse forms—as a linguistic system, a medium of literary and cultural expression, a vehicle for translation, and a subject of teaching and learning. We welcome submissions from scholars worldwide—regardless of nationality or linguistic background—on the English language in all its global dimensions.

WJEL is published bimonthly (January, March, May, July, September, and November) in both online and print formats. Manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission portal or emailed to wjel@sciedupress.com.

WJEL publishes high-quality research with a clear focus on the English language in the following areas:

  • English Linguistics: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics, and historical linguistics.
  • English Literature: literary theory, critical methodologies, and interpretive studies of classic and contemporary English-language works, engaging with theoretical, cultural, historical, or global dimensions.
  • Translation Studies: translation theory, practice, and interpreting involving English, especially in multilingual contexts, with emphasis on contrastive analysis, textual and discursive features in translation, and linguistically oriented approaches to translation.
  • Applied Linguistics and Language Education: the study of English language teaching and learning, grounded in second language acquisition (SLA), including ELT, TEFL, TESOL, English-medium instruction (EMI), curriculum development, teacher education, language assessment, bilingualism/multilingualism, EAP/ESP (including academic and professional writing), discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis (CDA), cross-cultural communication, and language policy.

All manuscripts undergo rigorous double-anonymous peer review. WJEL is committed to publishing research that is innovative, inclusive, and contributes meaningfully to global scholarship on the English language.

Paper Selection and Publishing Process

a) Submission acknowledgement and initial screening (1-2 working days)

The journal normally acknowledges receipt of a submission within 1-2 working days. The editorial board conducts an initial assessment of the manuscript's completeness, relevance to the journal's aims and scope, originality, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and conformity with essential submission requirements. A manuscript may be returned to the authors or rejected without external review when it clearly does not meet these requirements. If you fail to receive this confirmation, please check your bulk email box or contact the editorial assistant by email: wjel@sciedupress.com.

b) External Peer Review (4–12 weeks)

Manuscripts that pass initial editorial screening are normally evaluated through double-anonymized peer review by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. Editorial screening is not counted as external peer review. Although the journal takes reasonable steps to protect anonymity, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed because author identity may be inferred from preprints, citations, datasets, conference presentations, or the subject matter. The review process normally takes approximately four to twelve weeks but may vary according to reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, revision requirements, and ethical or technical checks.

c) Editorial Decision (2–3 working days)

Reviewer recommendations are advisory. The editorial board makes the editorial decision after considering the reviewers' reports, the manuscript's scholarly quality, relevance, originality, methodological or analytical validity, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and any other relevant information. Possible decisions include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, rejection with an invitation to submit a substantially revised manuscript as a new submission, or rejection.

d) Revision and Payment (depending on the authors)

When revision is requested, authors must submit: (1) a "Track Changes" version in Microsoft Word format with all insertions, deletions, and comments visible, (2) a "Clean Version" without any markup, and (3) a "Response to Comments" file explaining how each comment has been addressed or why a suggested change was not made. Manuscripts that do not follow these requirements may be returned to the authors. A request for revision does not guarantee acceptance. Article processing charges (1900.00USD) are requested only after final acceptance.

e) Publication and Access (1 week)

Following acceptance, production, approval of the page proofs by the corresponding author, and completion of any applicable administrative requirements, the article is published online as the version of record. Published articles are made freely and immediately available under the open-access license stated in the article.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

What is e-Version FirstTM

e-Version First is a feature offered through our journal platform. It allows PDF version of manuscripts that have been peer reviewed and accepted, to be hosted online prior to their inclusion in a final printed journal. Readers can freely access or cite the article.
