Community-Based Application of the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model in Nursing Education
Abstract
During a community-based service learning experience, BSN students used the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM) as a guide. They conducted a windshield survey, speaking with people in the community, and examining existing demographic, epidemiological, and biostatical data for cues. This information was used to develop a hypothesis and generate potential solutions. The solution was prioritized based on time and resources. The intervention was implemented. Outcomes were evaluated based on quantitative and qualitative data. Hurricane preparedness supplies were distributed to 73 families along with education materials provided verbally and in writing. Through this hands-on approach, students gained a deeper understanding of how to apply the CJMM to real life situations, while also strengthening their understanding of how social determinants influence health outcomes and skills in program planning, evaluation, and team collaboration.
