Focus and Scope

International Journal of English Language Teaching (IJELT) publishes empirical, theoretical, review, and practice-informed studies that advance knowledge of English language pedagogy across second-language, foreign-language, bilingual, multilingual, and international contexts.

The journal covers the following areas:

English Language Teaching and Learning 
Theory and practice of teaching and learning English across educational levels and contexts.

Second and Foreign Language Pedagogy 
ESL, EFL, TESOL, TEFL, instructional approaches, classroom interaction, and learner development.

Teacher Education and Professional Development 
Pre-service and in-service education, teacher cognition, identity, competencies, and professional learning.

Curriculum, Materials, and Course Design 
Curriculum development, textbooks, materials, syllabus design, task design, and instructional innovation.

Language Assessment and Feedback
Classroom assessment, testing, feedback, validity, formative assessment, and assessment literacy.

EAP, ESP, and Professional English 
English for academic, specific, occupational, and professional purposes.

Technology-Enhanced English Learning 
Digital learning, online and blended instruction, AI-supported learning, mobile learning, and educational technologies.

Language, Culture, and Policy in ELT 
Multilingualism, intercultural communication, language policy, and linguistic or literary content when directly relevant to English teaching.

IJELT focuses specifically on research that makes a clear and substantial contribution to English language teaching or learning. Submissions primarily concerned with general linguistics, theoretical linguistics, or literary studies are considered within the journal's scope only when their relevance to English language teaching or learning is explicit and substantial.

Peer Review Process

The journal uses double-anonymized peer-reviewed system for peer-review. The manuscript will be peer-reviewed by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. The review process may take 4-10 weeks. The editorial board makes the editorial decision after considering the reviewers' reports, the manuscript's scholarly quality, relevance, originality, methodological or analytical validity, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and any other relevant information. Possible decisions include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, rejection with an invitation to submit a substantially revised manuscript as a new submission, or rejection.

2026-2014 Semiannual, published in January and July

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

Before submitting a proposal, please note the following:

  • The special issue should focus on a specific research topic, conference theme, or closely related area within the journal’s scope.
  • All manuscripts submitted to the special issue will follow the same editorial and peer-review process as regular submissions.
  • Proposed guest editors and reviewers are subject to approval by the journal.
  • Proposals should be submitted to the journal at least five months before the planned publication date.
  • An article processing charge (APC) applies to each accepted article.
  • All published articles will be freely available online as open-access articles.
